The story of Roy Hart Computers is one of passion, commitment, and a deep love for technology. It all began in 1981 when Roy and Fleur Hart opened their Tandy Shop in Fore Street, Tiverton. Offering a wide variety of electronics—from resistors and hi-fi systems to torches and electronic games—their true focus was always on computers. As the world started to embrace the power of computers in the early '80s, Roy Hart Computers grew rapidly, fueled by a keen understanding of the tech landscape.

The breakthrough moment came when the Amstrad PCW (Personal Computer Word-processor) was introduced. Revolutionising the world of typewriters, this affordable device priced at just £299 opened up the world of computing to more people and sparked massive growth for the business.

In 1986, Roy and Fleur moved the business to their home in Ash Thomas, near Tiverton, allowing them to offer a more personalised service to their growing customer base. In 1990, their son Chris Hart joined the team, and the family expanded their offerings to include maintenance and support for PCW computers at local colleges. With the increasing accessibility of computers, they helped bring these powerful tools into the homes of local families for gaming, work, and leisure.

The Internet became the next frontier, and Roy Hart Computers was there to witness its infancy—complete with dial-up connections that forced customers to choose between browsing the web or making phone calls. As technology evolved, so did the business. The team began providing on-site support to clients across rural locations, including Mid Devon, Exmoor, and West Somerset, working in homes, offices, and farms with dedication and care.

In 1999, the business suffered the loss of its founder, Roy Hart, but his legacy and values lived on. Roy Hart Computers continued to serve customers from all walks of life, with an emphasis on providing top-notch support for anyone, no matter their age—whether it was a senior citizen or a student preparing for university.

From 1999 to 2013, Fleur and Chris Hart kept the business running smoothly, staying true to Roy’s vision. In 2013, Fleur retired, and Chris took the reins as the sole trader. Today, Chris Hart continues to lead Roy Hart Computers, working with a trusted network of local experts to ensure that the level of service we’ve been known for over the last 40+ years remains unparalleled.
